IBS Agro Trading Limited is a Tanzanian agricultural trading company. The business covers the full commercial chain for agricultural commodities — sourcing, aggregation, processing, packaging, marketing, distribution, import and export — so that a buyer can deal with one accountable counterparty from origin to delivery.

The company buys agricultural produce at origin, consolidates it into commercial volumes, prepares it to an agreed specification, and supplies it to buyers in Tanzania and in overseas markets. Working across the whole chain rather than a single step allows quality, documentation and delivery to be controlled together instead of being handed between unrelated parties.

The commodity range spans cereals, legumes and pulses, oilseeds, cash crops, spices, and animal feed materials. Every consignment is offered against a written specification covering variety, grade, moisture, purity, packaging and delivery terms, so that what is quoted is what is shipped.

  • Sourcing

Buying agricultural produce at origin from farmers, farmer groups, cooperatives and licensed traders, against an agreed specification and price.

  • Aggregation

Consolidating consignments from many smallholdings into single, uniform commercial lots that can be graded, priced and shipped as one.

  • Processing

Cleaning, destoning, sieving and sorting produce to remove foreign matter, immature grain and defective material before it is graded.

  • Packaging

Packing to the buyer's format, from retail units through to bulk sacks, including private-label packaging produced to the buyer's own artwork.

  • Marketing and distribution

Presenting the company's commodity range to wholesale, retail, institutional and industrial buyers, and delivering to their premises.

  • Import and export

Exporting Tanzanian commodities to overseas buyers and importing agricultural goods where a customer's requirement cannot be met locally.

The company is based in Mbeya, Tanzania, and sources produce from farming areas across the country, buying close to where crops are grown and moving them through collection and preparation before sale.

On the sell side the company supplies the domestic Tanzanian market and exports to buyers overseas. Export consignments are prepared for containerised or bulk despatch and can be quoted on terms ranging from ex-works through to delivery at the port of loading and beyond.

IBS Agro operates from Mbeya, Tanzania, in Tanzania's Southern Highlands. Mbeya and the Mbarali valley to its north sit among the country's established paddy and rice growing areas, and the wider highland belt through Iringa and Njombe carries maize, beans and pulses.

Being based in a growing area rather than at the port changes what we can do for a buyer. We buy at origin, see the crop before it is bought, and aggregate across a harvest window instead of taking whatever a broker has standing. It also means the honest answer to a large enquiry is sometimes that the crop is not there this season — which is a more useful answer than a price we cannot hold.

  1. Sourcing

Buying at origin against the contract specification, from farmers, cooperatives and approved suppliers in the producing regions.

  2. Aggregation

Consolidating many smallholder deliveries into one uniform commercial lot at a collection point, so the consignment grades as a single parcel.

  3. Inspection

Checking the lot against the agreed grade, moisture, purity and foreign matter tolerances before it goes any further. Third-party inspection is arranged where the contract calls for it.

  4. Processing

Cleaning, destoning, sieving and sorting to bring the lot to the contracted specification, and re-checking it afterwards rather than assuming the machine did it.

  5. Packaging

Packing and marking to the buyer's format — retail pack, woven bag, jumbo bag or bulk — including private-label packaging produced to the buyer's own artwork.

  6. Documentation

Preparing the export file for the consignment: the documents the buyer's bank and customs authority require, listed and applied for per shipment rather than carried over from the last one.

  7. Loading

Stuffing the container or loading the vehicle, with the tally and the seal recorded, and the condition of the unit checked before anything goes into it.

  8. Export

Despatch to the agreed Incoterm, with the documents released the way the payment instrument requires and the shipment traceable to its reference.

  • Realistic availability

We quote against the current crop position, not against the catalogue. Where a volume or a window cannot be met, we say so before a contract rather than after one.

  • Written specifications

Grade, moisture, purity, foreign matter, packaging and marking are agreed in writing before the lot is aggregated, so the standard the consignment is judged against is the one both sides signed.

  • Transparent commercial terms

Price, Incoterm, lead time, payment instrument and what each side carries are stated in the quotation. Incoterms are offered as available for the commodity and the route, and not beyond that.

  • Shipment-specific documentation

The export file is built for the consignment it travels with. We state in writing what we hold and what can be arranged, and we do not claim a certificate or accreditation that has not been issued to us.

  • Widening the supplier base

Building direct, repeat relationships with farmers, farmer groups and cooperatives so that volume can be secured earlier in the season and traced back to its source.

  • Broadening the commodity range

Adding commodity lines where the company can apply the same sourcing, preparation and export capability it already operates.

  • Strengthening processing and packaging

Increasing cleaning, sorting, grading and packing capacity so that more value is added to produce before it leaves Tanzania.

  • Growing export markets

Developing buyer relationships in additional overseas markets and supporting them with reliable documentation and shipment follow-up.

  • Formalising quality systems

Continuing to document specifications, inspection points and traceability records so that quality performance is demonstrable, not merely asserted.

  • Moving from spot sales to contracts

Converting one-off transactions into fixed-term contract supply arrangements that give both parties visibility over price, volume and schedule.
