We buy where the crop is grown, to a specification agreed before the season, so that quality is decided at intake rather than argued about at delivery.
Overview
Sourcing is the first and most consequential step in the chain. A consignment that is bought badly cannot be recovered later by cleaning, grading or packing, so the company buys against a written specification and inspects produce before it is paid for.
The company purchases from farmers, farmer groups, cooperatives and licensed traders in the areas where each crop is grown. Buying close to origin shortens the chain between grower and buyer, reduces the number of parties handling the produce, and keeps more of the sale value in the farming area.
Requirements are communicated to suppliers ahead of the buying season — variety, moisture, purity, permitted defects and packing — so that produce arrives at intake already close to the standard required, rather than being rejected after transport costs have been incurred.

How it works
The sequence below is followed on every consignment, and each step is recorded so the consignment can be reconstructed afterwards.
Agree the specification
Commodity, variety, grade, moisture, purity, permitted defects, packaging and volume are recorded in writing before any buying begins.
Identify and brief suppliers
Suppliers in the relevant growing areas are approached, registered and briefed on the specification, the price basis and the payment terms.
Inspect and sample
Produce is inspected and sampled at the buying point. Moisture and visible purity are checked before a purchase is agreed.
Purchase and record
The lot is bought, weighed and recorded against the supplier and the buying location, and the supplier is paid on the agreed terms.
Move to preparation
The lot is transported to a collection centre or preparation site for aggregation, cleaning and grading.
